"Mac" has a puppy dog attitude with people, and carries 90% foundation bloodlines (NFQHA standards). He is sired by the grulla stallion, Showdown Bailey Blue, and out of the buckskin mare, Hanky Molly McCue. He carries many Quarter Horse legends in his pedigree, including several crosses back to Skipper W bloodlines, Grey Badger II, Showdown, Pretty Boy, Wimpy and multiple crosses to King, to name a few. Mac's disposition is one we are proud of. We've owned him since around the age of 5 months, and he's always been quick to learn, and very calm and gentle. But the true test comes when people meet him. He's an in-your-pocket kind of guy, and loves being groomed, bathed, and just loved. I have hardly ever seen a horse with a better mind than this guy's got...except his sire. Our sweet Mac was gelded on 12/06/02 by no fault of his own. Our path in life has changed, and after our 2003 foals, we don't plan on breeding. Therefore, for his own well-being, we decided to geld him. As a stallion, he had a wonderful disposition, our own vet questioned his intact-ness. Because we don't intend to breed, and we were too selfish to sell him, we had him gelded. Mac has produced 6 foals, each one of them has a photo on this website. In 2001 a bay half Arabian colt, in 2002 a grulla colt, dun filly and black filly, and in 2003 a grulla colt and a grulla filly. Mac was on the volunteer mounted patrol at the Midwest Horse Fair in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Three photos below are in November, he's getting his winter woolies for the winter ahead.
Now, about Mac. Questions I would think any prospective buyer might want to know. Mac is 8 this year, and we have had him since he was a foal. He is friendly and easy to handle. He worms, clips, stands well for trimming, takes vaccinations well, ties and LOVES water, especially for a bath on a hot summer day. He will usually "ask" to be hosed off when it's hot and I'm filling the water tank...I'll spray him and he'll just stand there, and usually eventually turns around so I can get his other side. This is all on his own, no halter or lead rope...he loves a cold bath on a hot day. He will drop his head for you to groom, clip his bridlepath, put on halter or bridle. I've not measured him, but guess he's around 15.1, I will tape him to be sure. He'll usually step right into a trailer...and rides well. He's relatively quiet, I have confined him to an area of our yard for grazing just by putting a temporary strand of wire up. Although I wouldn't suggest it, he respects his boundaries and would probably stay in a strand of twine string. Until we put up our new fencing, our back pasture only had one strand of smooth wire to keep them in. He's very clean, preferring to go #2 in a pile or two he creates and adds to. I love that. Mac was up at the Midwest Horse Fair in 2003, 2004 and 2005 doing volunteer mounted patrol. He rode in crowds of people like he'd been doing it all of his life. He rode in the parking lots there, down the road with visitors coming in, and in open areas. He got a little nervous on occasion, but has never done anything disrespectful. Mac has been on one organized trail ride (the St. Judes fundraiser ride), and has been trail ridden off and on last fall, winter and this spring, primarily around the house. We have a woods behind our place with a trail running through it. Mac likes someone with soft hands and a good seat. He responds very well to his rider's seat and legs. He's a better riding horse than I am rider in that respect! He doesn't need much for fine tuning, he just needs more miles and a confident rider.
Mac has never been sick or lame his entire life. He has never been shod, but I know he wouldn't have a problem with that. He's never needed shoes, he's got nice hard feet. The photos I have on this page are just how he would look if you were here. He's always sleek and shiny, it's just part of being him. Of course he does get some grain, vitamin supplement, probiotic and soy oil daily...but he's looked this way even when he wasn't supplemented with anything. He bathes, trims, clips and deworms very easily. He takes his vaccinations like nothing. He usually loads right up into a trailer without any hesitation. And he has mastered "the look" that always gets his person to give him a treat.
Mac has a very nice smooth trot and canter. He has a good stop. He's only been ridden in a ring snaffle bit, or halter and lead ropes. He is very sensitive to his rider. Mac rides the same whether he's ridden every day, or once every several months. His usual saddle is a big roper with a flank cinch, so he's used to that. He learns quickly. He has been ridden english, western and bareback. I will only let him go to a very good home, and would like references. I would hope that if someone buys him, and he doesn't work out, or for whatever reason they cannot keep him, that I have right of first refusal on him. I would like the option to buy him back. This gelding owns a piece of my heart. He always will. And I just want to make sure if he leaves here, he has a good life. His vet records are all in the same place, and I would be happy to help you get in touch with our vet to see that he is what I say he is. Send me an Email if you have any further questions about Mac. He will always be up to date on worming, vaccinations, negative coggins, and hoof trims. I have been asked often and will answer here. Mac is for sale for two reasons. He was always my husband's horse, my husband, who has no time to ride anymore. I have two young uns (yearling and a 2 year old) and my mare to be working with, and don't have the time. We just need to think about cutting back on the amount of horses we have. I'm only one person. And have 6 horses to maintain, love, and play with. I would consider payments, too, if I felt the person was the right match. Might consider a possible free lease as well, if it was within reasonable distance from Madison. May also consider payments without board fees for a negotiable period of time, but he could not leave until all payments have been made. I am pretty easy to work with. Even moreso with him, because Mac is very special to me. PEDIGREE
