We had one
miniature donkey foal due late summer of 2008. Mom is our Kochia,
35.5"
2001
Boomer (registered UQR name Showdown On Fire) was born to my beloved Arabian mare, TA Kiss Afire in the spring of 2001. He truly grew to be the very best of both breeds. He was a beautiful bay, and in the summertime, it was hard to tell from a long distance who was Boomer and who was Mac. Boomer was registered with the Quarab Registry, and his registered name is Showdown on Fire. Boomer was eventually sold, and moved to his new home in California at close to two years old. 2002 The next foal born here was from our mare, Forever In Bluejean, and her first foal. He was a grulla colt we had registered as Boston Showdown. He was sold as a yearling to some people in Nebraska, and has since had his name changed to Playboys Connection.
Kissy was also due to foal that year, although unfortunately had the foal 6 weeks early, and the foal, a little black filly, was just not strong enough, nor developed enough. You can see more of that story on our Memoriam page.
Our other grulla mare at the time, Sparkles In
Blue (a photo of her can be seen on our
For Sale
page), a half sister to our Forever In Bluejean, had a filly. This
was one strange colored filly at birth...she looked pink! But she
turned out to be a beautiful buttermilk dun, and was sold to a
family in Iowa. Her name is GR Sparklin Showgirl. Some days I
kicked myself for selling this beautiful filly, and still wonder
about her often. She was definitely one of my favorite foals born
here.
The foals of 2003 would be the last foals of our Mac, as he was gelded while the mares were in foal to him in late 2002. Sparkles and Blue both had grulla foals in 2003. Blue's filly had been reserved and was already sold at birth, her name is Forever Abby McCue, and she lives in Oklahoma at B-4 Ranch
Sparkles' colt was sold prior to registration, his buyer named him Outright Conceit. I called him Chip. He went to Oregon state. 2005
Sparkles and Blue were both bred to Showdown Bailey Blue, the sire of our stallion at the time, for 2005 foals, however Sparkles was sold in foal and moved to Louisiana. I was told she gave birth to a red dun colt. Blue had a grulla filly. Her registered name is Mia Showdown, we just called her Mia. She was a beautiful filly, with my favorite face marking, a star, strip and snip, and no white on her legs. She was built much like her mom! She is still living in WI, and I was told there were plans to show her in the IBHA circuit down the road. We gelded Mac, sold Sparkles, and didn't plan on breeding any longer, although our foals were much more than we could have asked for. That is not to say we will not have any more foals, and if I were to look into the future, I would guess that Blue will be bred sometime in the future again, to an outside stallion. Since we did not keep any of our foals, this next one would be special, as we would breed with the intention of keeping this foal. 2008
September 1st, 2008 brought us a foal of a different kind! A
donkey foal! Our jenny, JoMaGo Kochia gave birth to this extra
cute little girl at 3:45 in the morning while I quietly watched.
24" at birth, she's much bigger in love and friendliness.
